Hope for Andrew …in China.

Andrew Neuman. Born blind. Getting stem cell therapy in China.

Andrew Neuman has never seen his mom, his dad, a sunrise or a sunset. He’s never spied the leaves turning blaze orange, a spring rain gently falling or the wintry snow fly.

But like any rambunctious pre-school-age boy, the 4-year-old Cottage Grove tyke with Septo Optic Dysplasia, a condition in which the underdevelopment of his optic nerves has left him completely blind, can get himself in trouble in the blink of an eye — sight or no sight.

Next month, mother and son will make the long, exhausting flight to China for stem cell treatments, an experimental therapy that may be Andrew’s best shot at sight.
