Details Emerge Concerning Microsoft’s So-Called iPod Killer

Microsoft’s Argo device is reportedly being developed within the Xbox group under the leadership of Xbox co-founder J Allard. The device is expected to go on sale during the 2006 holiday season and will go head to head with Apple’s iPod.

Microsoft has tried to keep plans for its so-called iPod killer tightly under wraps, but the software giant is indeed developing a digital media player to compete with Apple’s (Nasdaq: AAPL) Latest News about Apple best-selling product, The Seattle Times is reporting.

Music companies are apparently leaking some details about Microsoft’s plans, according to a Times story that cites sources close to the project. As the story goes, Microsoft is not merely developing one product aimed at dethroning the iPod. It is developing a complete line of Xbox-branded digital media products, including a device that plays media, a software media player and an online media service.
