$80,000 A Buck At A Time

Court officials did not look happy taking an $80,000 court ordered payment in one shot. Why not?

Because it came in $1 bills. They didn’t want to take the money that way, but state law says they had to.

Fort Lauderdale investor and credit counselor William Lewis Jr. had to use a handicap entrance to get his hand-cart full of money into the courthouse. A bailiff had to escort him on an elevator before his money could be scanned through the metal detectors.

“That money will grow mold before the bank gets it,” said Lewis. “I will keep this case in court as long as I have to.”
