Why Paris is on fire

Paris’ suburbs have been burning for more than a week as decades of pent-up resentment felt by the children of African immigrants exploded into an orgy of violence and vandalism.

For eight straight nights, gangs of fed-up youths have battled French cops, torched schools and businesses, and attacked commuter trains. In one especially horrific incident, a woman on crutches was doused with flammable liquid and set on fire as she tried to get off a bus. She suffered severe burns.
